Q: Which artist would you most love to see perform (alive or dead)?
Most people would probably say this, but I think it’d have to be the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were such a perfect unit. Or the Ramones with Joey and Dee Dee. I’d like to see The Stooges reform properly with the Ashetons. I think they’re nearly there! Non musically, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
Q: Name your fantasy band line-up:
Marc Bolan on guitar, Richard Thompson on another guitar, Captain Sensible on guitar solos, JJ Burnel on bass, Bryan Ferry on lead vocals, Keith Moon on drums, Lora Logic on the sax, Dave Stewart from Egg on keyboards and Poly Styrene doing back up vocals!
Q: Best Friday night music and hangover music?
When I’m getting ready to go out it has to be something kick arse like the Stranglers or pure glam like T-Rex. I have a list of ‘going out’ albums that I like to play, including Jilted John, The Damned, X-ray Spex, Roxy Music and The Kinks (so a mixed bunch!). The morning after however, I love playing the sound track to the original 1960s film Bedazzled, written by Dudley Moore. It’s gentle, groovy and very 60s. Or maybe, The Monkees, especially the song “Shades of Gray”.
Q: If you could have any groupie, who would it be?
Josh Homme. He covered the Groundhogs ‘Eccentric Man’, so he has exceptional taste in music, amongst other things.
Q: What muso gear do you have?
Not enough. My bass is a Heartbreaker by Daisy Rock Guitars and I LOVE it dearly. I have a Laney R4 amp for gigging with. But when (if?) we ever get big fat advances we’re supposed to invest in new amps, so I’d probably pick out a huge Ampeg, get a few more Daisy Rocks and spend the change on dresses from Ebay.
Q: First ever gig and the first album you bought?
First gig was Jethro Tull when I was 8 or 9 years old in the late 80s. The first album I got for myself was a scratched vinyl copy of the Stranglers ‘La Folie’ bought for 50p in Oxfam. My sister bought me ‘New Kids On The Block – Hangin’ Tough’ album when I was a nipper, so technically that was my first album, but I’d rather forget about it…
Q: Who would play you in Teasing LuLu the movie?
Can I have Bill Murray in a bobbed wig? I just like the idea of that.. If he’s not available, I’ll take the green Powerpuff Girl, Buttercup.
Q: What could be your personal theme tune?
Go With The Flow – Q.O.T.S.A
Q: If you hadn’t been in Teasing LuLu you might’ve been..
The editor of Mojo Magazine. Or perhaps the National Enquirer.
Q: Teasing LuLu are…
The best move I ever made. We have great songs, catchy choruses, melody with attitude, and a bunch of fun doing it all on stage. Somebody said we have “the spirit of ’77” and I liked that a lot.
