Emily Warner Gig Review (2005)

It is Teasing LuLu. Opening with the title track of their demo Ex-Factor it tears through the excited crowd with its hard and heavy sound.
Then theres their second number, like the Nirvana classic Smells Like Teen Spirit it reigns down upon the heads of those watching, only this song has more attitude than you could dream of – provided by their sharp suited drummer Stevie Styx. Mr. Styx pounds the skins so hard that the bass drum begins to move forward and backs the LuLus lustrous bassist Louisa into the corner.
The Stranglers influence shines through in Pump It Up a spiky number that draws a massive response. From the meows of guitarist/singer Lucy in Cat And Mouse to the brilliant riffs of Looser that slaughter the crowd viciously, it is evident they’ve gone down well. Let me tell you one thing after seeing them on that stage tonight its obvious that Teasing LuLu are a band not to mess with and God help them if anyone tries to.
